Operational Structure
Purpose
The WalkAroos National Trial Program has been designed to identify and select Australia’s best walking football players through a fair, transparent, and nationally consistent process.
Our objective is to ensure every participant is assessed against the same performance standards, regardless of where they trial, while providing selectors with objective information to support final team selection.
National Trial Framework
National trials will be conducted across selected regions using a standardized assessment model developed by Walking Football Australia.
Each trial will follow the same operational format, ensuring consistency in:
Player registration and check-in
Warm-up procedures
Technical skill assessments
Small-sided match play
Tactical awareness observations
Physical movement and mobility
Teamwork and communication
Sportsmanship and attitude
Dynamic Player Assessment
Rather than relying solely on match performances, players will be evaluated across multiple performance areas.
Assessment categories may include:
Ball control and first touch
Passing accuracy and decision making
Movement off the ball
Defensive positioning
Attacking awareness
Communication
Game intelligence
Fitness and mobility
Compliance with walking football laws
Leadership and team culture
Each player will receive a standardized evaluation recorded throughout the trial.
Digital Assessment System
Selectors will utilise digital assessment tools to record observations in real time.
This system will:
Provide consistent scoring across every venue
Reduce unconscious bias
Allow comparison of players nationally
Store assessment records securely
Generate player performance summaries
Assist with squad balancing and final selections
National Selection Oversight
Following each trial, assessment data will be reviewed by the National Selection Panel.
The panel will consider:
Trial performance
Positional requirements
Team balance
Tactical suitability

Commitment to the international program
Final selections remain the responsibility of the National Selection Panel.
